At Pownall Hall School, we are passionate about teaching Modern Foreign Languages, believing that early exposure to languages fosters a lifelong love of learning and curiosity about the world.
From Early Years to Form 6, we unlock opportunities by immersing children in the joy, challenge and creativity of language learning. Our core language program focuses on French, and German from Form 4, complemented by a Spanish club, as well as vibrant language-themed events such as the European Day of Languages, French cafés, and bilingual performances in our school theatre. All lessons are led by fully qualified native-speaking teachers, whose expertise and enthusiasm bring language learning to life.
As a French national, I have experienced firsthand the immense value of speaking another language—it opens doors and creates countless opportunities. Starting my teaching career in secondary education, I discovered my true calling in the primary sector, where the excitement and creativity of young learners make every lesson an adventure. I am dedicated to sharing my love of languages with the students and inspiring them to embrace the wonderful world of languages with enthusiasm, creativity and confidence.

Pownall children with English as an additional language
From as young as 2 years old, our children engage in fun and interactive weekly French lessons. Through songs, games and stories, they develop a natural curiosity and excitement for languages. Jacques, our delightful French puppet, adds a touch of magic to the classroom, creating memorable and joyful experiences that help children form a lasting connection with the language.
As children transition into Pre-Prep, they build on their early experiences by developing key language skills through engaging activities. Lessons focus on simple vocabulary, conversational phrases, and cultural exploration, setting a strong foundation for their next stage of language learning.
In Prep, children expand their skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing. They delve into the structure of the French language, developing a deeper understanding of grammar and phonics. Through engaging activities, children are motivated to experiment with language, fostering creativity and confidence as they express themselves in French.
In addition to their studies in French, children embark on an exciting journey into the world of German, led by Felix and Franzi, two engaging characters from the Goethe Institute. These lessons provide a window into German culture, traditions, and language, offering a well-rounded linguistic education.
At Pownall Hall School, our language program does more than teach vocabulary and grammar—it nurtures a genuine interest in global cultures and fosters essential interpersonal skills. Through role-playing, collaborative projects, and cultural events, our students develop the confidence and empathy to thrive in an interconnected world.
Our ultimate goal is to inspire a lifelong passion for languages, equipping children with the skills and enthusiasm to explore the endless possibilities that multilingualism offers.
