Our Philosophy – ‘Hygge’ in the Early Years
Our Early Years department has embraced the Danish way of living, which is known as Hygge (pronounced hue-guh). It’s a word used to promote a feeling or moment, ordinary or extraordinary as cosy, charming or special. It’s about creating learning environments that promote emotional well-being, togetherness and friendship.
The Outdoors
The outdoors is as important as the indoors and both environments complement each other displaying natural resources and places in which to play, learn and discover. The children also benefit from discovering our 8 beautiful acres of grounds and do so regularly on welly walks and by using our Forest School. We are lucky enough to have our own chickens and the children love visiting them. We also keep guinea pigs, and the children learn how to be gentle and look after them.

A Muddy Puddle Flagship School
Pownall Hall School works in partnership with the ‘The Muddy Puddle Teacher’ – Sarah Seaman. The Muddy Puddle Teacher Approach was created in 2018. Their incredible outdoor learning methods use only natural and upcycled resources which are linked to all areas of the EYFS and National Curriculum.
