Form 5 Become Forensic Scientists

Form 5 became Forensic Scientists in their science lesson and solved a crime!

Form 5 were presented with evidence of a crime which had taken place. A mysterious letter saying 5C were better at science than 5D was found along with three pens belonging to three different teachers. To solve the crime, Form 5 used Chromatography to test the ink of the three pens as well as an ink sample from the letter.

In chemical analysis, Chromatography is a laboratory technique for the separation of a mixture. The mixture is dissolved in a fluid called the mobile phase, which carries it through a system on which a material called the stationary phase is fixed.

As they tested all three pens and the ink sample they were able to see a perfect match and solve the crime! What a fun an innovative way to teach Chromatography techniques to the children.
