Why do we teach History as a separate and distinct subject at Pownall?

History helps children to develop a better understanding of the world in which they live. It improves their decision-making and judgment, and models what it is to be a good and responsible citizen. History helps children to understand the mistakes of others and to learn from them; guiding the children in the personal and societal changes that may be required in the future.

In its simplest terms, History helps shed light on the events of the recent past and to appreciate with greater clarity the events of today.
