At Pownall Hall School, we strongly believe in the benefits of learning a Foreign Language. Learning a language enriches the curriculum, providing excitement, enjoyment and challenge for the children. It also develops problem-solving and listening skills, tolerance and positive attitudes towards other cultures.
French is fully included in the curriculum from Nursery all the way up to Year 6 and Spanish and German are also taught in KS2. Lessons are interactive and taught by fully qualified teachers and native speakers.
In KS1 we develop an ear and taste for the language through songs, games and stories. In KS2 children learn with a variety of resources aiming at developing speaking and listening, but also reading and writing and we aim to foster greater independence too.
Events such as the European Day of Languages, French café and bilingual performances in our in-school theatre are great ways to keep languages alive. Languages clubs, penpal exchanges and visits and support from native speakers are also in place.
