Sport is in abundance at Pownall and is taught by our specialist sports staff to all of our pupils from Nursery through to Form 6.
We have a strong focus on team sports and play and take part in regular fixtures, festivals and tournaments throughout the year. The broad range of sports we take part in provides the children with the experience of competing on a regular basis. As Pownall Hall School is all about inclusion, we ensure that all of our children, of all abilities, experience the excitement and rewards that representing school can offer.
Our sports programme also focuses on individual sports providing all of our children the opportunity to thrive, grow, and develop using sport as a pathway.
We also have inter-house fixtures, which is a great way for the children to work as a team and to compete for their House.
Football, netball, rugby, tennis, hockey, cricket, rounders, athletics, cross country and swimming are taught and played throughout the school year on our beautiful 8 acre site. Our facilities are exceptional with a sports hall, astro pitch, cricket strip and a sports field which houses 3 football/rugby pitches. We also make great use of the local swimming pool on a weekly basis.
Sport at Pownall is all about a positive, happy, yet challenging and competitive environment. We appreciate, promote and understand the variety of benefits sport and physical education can have on our pupils and their mental and physical wellbeing. In addition to the children benefiting from improved self esteem, sports gives them crucial communication and social skills, and of course, team work!
As well as our curriculum taught sports, we also have a huge variety of extra sports clubs on offer which our children take part during their break times, as well as after school. Have a look at our clubs page for more information.
“It really is so fantastic to see her developing her passion for all sports. Her confidence has blossomed over the course of her time at Pownall and sport has been a real key driver for that. Thank you again for your help and support.”
