PE and Games

Sport is in abundance at Pownall and is taught by our specialist sports staff to all of our pupils from Nursery through to Form 6.

We have a strong focus on team sports and play and take part in regular fixtures, festivals and tournaments throughout the year. The broad range of sports we take part in provides the children with the experience of competing on a regular basis. As Pownall Hall School is all about inclusion, we ensure that all of our children, of all abilities, experience the excitement and rewards that representing school can offer. Pownall Hall plays regular sports fixtures against local schools, we take part in tournaments, festivals and IAPS events throughout the year. The school’s House system promotes Inter-House competitions in many of these sports.

Our sports programme also focuses on individual sports providing all of our children the opportunity to thrive, grow, and develop using sport as a pathway. Netball, cricket, touch rugby, hockey, football, basketball and rounders are taught and played throughout the school year on our beautiful site. We also participate in cross country, athletics, swimming, dance and gymnastics.

Within our extensive 8 acre grounds, we are able to host football fixtures and tournaments on the school field. The outdoor cricket strip enables cricket matches to be played during the Summer months, and the onsite Astroturf facility provides the opportunity for either hockey, netball or 5 a side football to be played all year round. We make excellent use of the school’s indoor sports hall facility when the weather prevents outdoor play. Gymnastics, spatial awareness, and coordination skills are all taught and encompassed within games, play and active learning across all year groups. Indoor cricket nets are also utilised on a regular basis to enhance skills and club practices.

“It really is so fantastic to see her developing her passion for all sports. Her confidence has blossomed over the course of her time at Pownall and sport has been a real key driver for that. Thank you again for your help and support.”
