Part of The Pownall Family
Our Parents’ Association is an integral part of our school community, running social events and activities throughout the year that add to the ‘family spirit’ that is abundant at Pownall. The Pownall Parents’ Association has an enviable track record of raising significant funds, that help to provide additional facilities and equipment for our wonderful school. In the past 5 years the Parents’ Association events have raised over £100,000 for our wonderful school.
We run lots of events, some small, some large, some for the children, and some are parents only! We have a very varied calendar. The children enjoy the Summer and Winter Fairs, along with visits from the Easter bunny and chick, who are a very popular pair! At Christmas, Santa visits his newly prepared grotto in the main hall. Along with his elves, he sits alongside the glowing embers of our beautiful fire and welcomes the children, who get the opportunity to chat to him about their Christmas wishes.
New to the events calendar, has been our ‘Light Up The Sky’ event, which is our version of Bonfire Night. This has been a big hit with parents and children alike, due to it being a safer and more intimate alternative to the big organised displays that are hosted in the local area. Parents enjoy our annual Quiz Night that sells out every year along with the Summer Ball, which is always a very popular event and a great way to round off the summer term. On a much smaller scale, we organise local nights out and regular coffee mornings for parents in each class, we like coffee and we like cake!
Funded Projects
Parents’ Association funds have helped to build a state of the art astro pitch for all year round sports for all pupils from Nursery to Form 6, a fabulous outdoor classroom in our Early Years provision to allow free flow, indoor/outdoor learning whatever the weather and our beautiful forest school classroom that we also use for our STEM workshops.
Other projects funded by the Parents’ Association include:
- Installation of the ICT suite
- Construction of the nature garden and pond
- Trim trail (an age-appropriate assault course)
- Storytelling chair and benches
- Gardening boxes
- School Radio Station
- Theatre Renovation
Throughout the year, we also purchase smaller items, such as sports day gazebos and flags (for the athletes’ parade!), playground equipment, outdoor lighting for evening events, teas and coffees for parents at school events, the teachers’ wish list that enables the staff to request any extra items they would like, and lots more.
The Parents’ Association brings the school together in many different ways. It fundraises throughout the year creating friendships and opportunities for the school. It is a huge part of the school week, with members frequenting the grounds throughout the day helping in one way or another, but it never loses its main focus; it’s all about the children!
