At Pownall Hall School, our Pre-Prep curriculum is designed to ignite a passion for learning and foster holistic development in our young children. We believe that outstanding teaching underpins everything we do. Our dedicated staff are committed to delivering engaging, high-quality lessons that both inspire and challenge each child.
We offer specialist lessons taught by subject experts such as Music, PE, Science and French. These classes not only nurture children’s skills and talents but also instill a love for each subject from an early age.
Our native French teacher, Mme Pettecrew enriches the learning experience by teaching the language with authentic accents in a fun, age appropriate way; while our experienced in-house Music teacher, Miss Wainwright, and our team of 6 peripatetic music teachers provide inspiring and hands-on lessons with various instruments. From Form 1, children are taught in the Science Lab with Mrs Dalton, bringing the magic of science to life! Our Pre-Prep Sport programme, led by Mrs Johnstone and Miss Chapman, focuses on fun, teamwork, and sportsmanship, plus, in addition to weekly PE and Games lessons, children have a huge variety of activities and after school clubs available to try.
We believe that every child has a performance waiting to happen! Our on site Boddington Theatre is the perfect stage for our young performers to shine and we offer a range of opportunities for public speaking, music, and drama. From our annual Christmas Nativity to external competitions and one-to-one/group lessons in LAMDA and Music, every child has the chance to explore their creativity and develop their confidence. At Pownall Hall, we recognise that the confidence and techniques learnt whilst public speaking on a stage, are skills that can be utilised throughout their adult lives.

Our dedicated teaching team works closely with parents to ensure a seamless transition, building on the strong foundation laid in Pre-Prep. We focus on refining independence, time management, and organisational skills, which are vital for Prep school success. Our experienced staff also offer additional support in core subjects, such as English, Maths and Science, helping to fill any knowledge gaps. By the time they reach Prep, our children are better equipped to handle the increased academic demands, make new friends and settle into the rhythm of Prep school life. This gentle but effective transition helps our children grow into confident, well-rounded and resilient individuals, well-prepared for their future academic journey.
