We understand that circumstances change and that families may seek a new school at different points during the academic year. Pownall Hall School welcomes in-year admissions, subject to availability, and takes great care to ensure each child’s transition is positive, supportive and unhurried.
Whether a family is relocating, returning to the UK, or seeking a new environment better suited to their child, we approach every enquiry with sensitivity and individual attention.
Children joining Pownall Hall mid-year are welcomed into our close-knit community with the same care and consideration as those joining at the start of the academic year.
Small class sizes and strong pastoral support allow teachers to get to know new pupils quickly, ensuring they feel secure, included and confident from the outset. Time is taken to understand each child’s background, strengths and needs, allowing them to settle naturally and make a smooth transition into school life.
We encourage families considering an in-year place to visit the school and experience Pownall Hall in action.
Visits take place during a normal school day and are led one-to-one by the Headmaster. This provides an opportunity to see learning taking place, meet members of staff, and discuss your child’s individual circumstances in a relaxed and open setting.
Any assessments for in-year entry are age-appropriate and designed to help us understand how best to support your child. Our aim is always to ensure that Pownall Hall is the right fit, both academically and pastorally.
Entry points are considered on an individual basis, and we are always happy to discuss availability across year groups.
“My son thanked me this morning for moving him schools, he is the happiest I've seen him for such a long time, and has been made to feel part of the Pownall family straight away. I only wish we'd brought him to Pownall sooner.

“The biggest difference I have found since moving from a local state school is the sense of family that surrounds Pownall. We really do feel part of one big family. Staff are kind and welcoming and every child you see from the babies to the older children all have a smile on their faces.
My children are so much more confident in their own abilities and I think this is because every child is celebrated. They now approach their homework with a positive attitude, they are challenged but don’t give up, eager to please their teachers.
We can’t thank everyone enough, our only regret is not making the leap sooner.
