As a critical part of health and development, with a balanced, nutritious diet directly improving children’s health and building stronger immune systems, nutrition forms an essential aspect of pastoral care at Pownall. We strive to encourage our pupils to develop positive attitudes to food, eating and nutrition.
As Healthy Schools Certified, Pownall is proud to cook all meals on site, using fresh ingredients, sourced from local suppliers. Sourcing locally is just one of the many ways Pownall is becoming more sustainable. Other initiatives include ordering food with less packaging and recycling all food waste.
Each day, our catering team freshly prepares lunch and high-tea, plus mid-morning and afternoon snacks. Each mealtime offers a wide range of choices on an adaptable menu, created in collaboration between the catering team, pupils and parents. In addition to the main meals, pupils have access to a salad bar that includes jacket potatoes and soup, with a plentiful supply of fresh, healthy produce.
Our exceptional catering team is highly experienced in dealing with a wide range of dietary requirements.
To further enhance the children’s knowledge of, and interest in, nutrition, we run an after school baking club for Form 1 to Form 6 throughout the year. Here, children, with the support of the catering team, bake a wide range of delicious foods.
““At Pownall we are blessed and most fortunate to have such an amazing Catering Team who care so much about the health and welfare of every pupil in their care. Thank you”
- David Goulbourn, Headmaster”
Following our most recent visit from the Cheshire East Environmental Health Agency, the Officer commented on the high standards we maintain in the kitchen, especially our use of local suppliers and fresh deliveries daily! They were also impressed with the knowledge of the team and how we cater for different allergies, and awarded 5 stars.
