At Pownall Hall School, we believe that ability, potential and character should never be overlooked due to financial circumstance alone.
Our means-tested bursary programme exists to widen access to a Pownall education for families who share our values and are seeking a long-term, high-quality independent education for their child, but for whom full fees would otherwise present a genuine barrier.
Bursaries are offered with care, discretion and integrity, and are awarded following a confidential assessment process.
A bursary is a means-tested reduction in school fees, awarded where there is clear financial need and where a Pownall Hall education is deemed to be the right fit for the child and family.
Bursaries are:
They may be awarded for entry at various stages of the school, from Form 1 and above, subject to availability.
Bursaries are intended for families who:
Are fully committed to an independent school education
Value academic rigour alongside strong pastoral care
Are seeking continuity through to 11+
Would not be able to consider Pownall Hall without financial support
They are designed as a means of enabling children to benefit from a complete Pownall Pathway.
All bursary applications are assessed through a confidential financial review, conducted with sensitivity and professionalism.
Each application is considered on its own merits, taking into account:
Household income and expenditure
Assets and liabilities
Family circumstances
The child’s suitability for Pownall Hall School
Our aim is always to be fair, transparent and respectful, recognising that financial situations can be complex.
“My son thanked me this morning for moving him schools, he is the happiest I've seen him for such a long time, and has been made to feel part of the Pownall family straight away. I only wish we'd brought him to Pownall sooner. ”
We approach bursaries with the same care and responsibility that we bring to every aspect of school life.
Awarding a bursary represents a significant commitment from the school, and equally, a commitment from the family to:
Engage fully with school life
Support their child’s education and development
Work in partnership with the school over time
This ensures that bursary support is sustainable, purposeful and genuinely transformative.
Discussing bursary support
We understand that conversations around finances can feel sensitive.
Families considering a bursary are encouraged to speak directly and confidentially with our Admissions team. An initial conversation can help establish whether a bursary application may be appropriate before any formal process begins.
All enquiries are handled with absolute discretion and no obligation or pressure to commit. Families finding the right school for their children is always our number one priority.
If you would like to discuss bursary support, or understand whether a bursary application may be appropriate for your family, we would be very happy to help.
