The 11+ is the process by which children apply to selective senior schools, including independent and grammar schools. Each school sets its own entrance requirements, which may include written exams, interviews, assessments or a combination of these.
There is no single 11+ exam. This is where many families feel overwhelmed.
At Pownall, we guide families through every step. We explain each school’s process clearly, advise on suitability, and tailor preparation so that children are never faced with unnecessary pressure or unfamiliar demands.

From Form 5 onwards, teaching is shaped around the specific schools each child is applying to. This includes:

One example is our Form 6 Business Enterprise project, where pupils design, pitch and run a business, presenting to a panel of ‘dragons’ and selling their products within school. Another is our annual Balloon Debate, where Form 6 pupils deliver speeches in character on stage, responding to questions from a live audience.
