Headmaster’s Welcome

Dear Parents,

A very warm welcome to Pownall Hall School, and thank you for considering us at such an important stage of your child’s education.

Pownall Hall is a school where children are known, supported and encouraged to be the very best version of themselves. As a preparatory school, we take great care to combine strong academic ambition with warmth, kindness and a genuine love of learning.

Small class sizes and specialist teaching allow us to challenge and stretch each child appropriately, while ensuring that support is always close at hand. We believe that children achieve most when they feel confident, valued and secure, and this underpins everything we do.

Preparation for senior school is a key part of life at Pownall Hall. We guide pupils thoughtfully towards the schools that are right for them, building the academic foundations, independence, resilience and self-belief they need to thrive at the next stage. At the same time, we remain firmly committed to preserving childhood, encouraging curiosity, creativity and enjoyment alongside high expectations.

Pastoral care sits at the heart of the school. Our staff know the children well and take time to build strong, trusting relationships with both pupils and families. Open communication is central to this partnership, and we work closely with parents to support each child’s happiness and wellbeing.

Pownall Hall is a close-knit community where kindness, respect and empathy are lived every day. Children learn not only how to succeed academically, but how to contribute positively to the world around them. We believe that these values are as important as academic success in preparing children for life beyond school.

The best way to understand Pownall Hall is to visit us. Seeing the school in action, meeting the children and staff, and experiencing the atmosphere for yourself will give you the clearest sense of whether Pownall is the right place for your child.

I look forward to welcoming you personally.

“Our co-curricular programme of wellbeing, mental health and growth mindset enables us to educate the whole child, developing them both socially and emotionally to become curious, hard-working, aspirational, inquisitive, kind and caring children.”
